Students of the Osmania University will get coaching for competitive examinations in their respective departments itself from this academic session. Principal of the University Arts College Prof Mallesham Sankasala has decided to introduce coaching classes on English proficiency, communication skills and competitive exams to ensure full attendance and help students chart out a better career graph.

“Strengthening academics is the main issue this year. We have discussed about it and teachers in all the departments will conduct classes separately to improve communication among students. As part of the course itself, we will conduct classes basically to improve fluency in English,” said Prof Mallesham.

Speaking about low attendance in classes, he explained that after talking to students he had found out that they stay away from college to prepare for competitive exams. “Keeping what they told me in mind, I have decided to introduce coaching for competitive exams in the respective departments itself. That way, students will also benefit, and the university’s academic atmosphere will not be disturbed,” he told City Express. However, he did warn that attendance will be an issue and all students will have to come to classes regularly or face consequences.

The syllabus in all the departments has also been so designed as to help students prepare for NET, SLET, APPSC & UPSC exams. “E-learning will also be introduced from this year on, so that students can access all the information they need from one place,” said Mallesham, adding that changing the atmosphere in the Arts College is a dynamic process, and that it will take time for the students to adjust to the new measures. The principal has also appointed six committees, comprising faculty members to constantly monitor administration, academics and governance in general.
