Hurt by the politics being played over his concerts in India, Pakistani Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali has said that he will not be performing in India till the time the issues between the countries settle down.
All his concerts scheduled including the one in Delhi and another on December 3 and in Lucknow on November 25 have been cancelled. Ali claimed that he is upset over how political points were trying to score brownie points by not letting him perform in India.
Censor board member Ashok Pandit appreciated the him for his decision. "Ghulam Ali has taken the right decision. I appreciate this decision. Other artists from Pakistan should also take the lead and decide not to come to India till their country starts behaving well with our soldiers. I appreciate he understands that Pakistan is killing our soldiers. They cannot be using India as an ATM. I have never seen him criticize what Pakistan has been doing," he said.
The Pakistani ghazal maestro's concerts in Mumbai and Pune were cancelled due to opposition by Shiv Sena, but was scheduled to perform in the national capital.
Following last week's cancellation, which led to huge uproar, the 74-year-old singer, who has followers on both sides of the border, had agreed to perform in Delhi on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's invitation.
Shiv Sena reportedly threatened to disrupt the singer's show in the national capital too. To this, AAP had said that it will deploy its "army of workers", if necessary, to ensure that the concert is not disrupted.
