BANGALORE: For over a year Magrath Road has been closed due to the construction of an underground storm water drain (SWD). The road has been in a deplorable condition since. Constant digging and the mess has left everyone there in a state of furry.City Express had published a report on July 11, ‘When the time comes...’  stating the problems faced by the residents in the area due to the construction. Jerry, a resident of one of the apartments on the Magrath Road said he was fed up with the work and the inconvenience that it has caused.Unfortunately, nothing much has changed since, the area is still a mess. In fact the stretch just where Magrath Road meets Commissariat Road is combination of little mounds of silt, filth and mud. The only space available for walking  is the narrow pavement. The BBMP engineer-in-chief, BT Ramesh, stated that a storm water drain (SWD) was being constructed on the stretch. He had explained that initially the SWD was flowing from Brigade Road to Raheja Complex and now they are working on redirecting the passage. While 60 days ago the engineer-in-chief had mentioned that 50 per cent of the work had been completed and the then storm water drain chief engineer, Muni Krishnan, had also said that the work will be completed within the next one and a half months, nothing has happened yet.  Krishnan had also mentioned that once the work was over, instead of asphalting the road the Palike will use reinforced concrete cement.Commenting on the present situation, the Ananth Swamy, who has replaced Krishnan said that while working they had encountered a few problems that they did not expect.“We had not overseen a few problems that have come in our way now. We are hoping to begin work again in one week,” he said. When questioned about the problems encountered, the chief engineer was hesitant to reveal the same. He however, said that he has a few plans in the pipeline to overcome the obstacle.“Once we begin the work again, we will complete it without further delays. We will hopefully finish all work by the month of November.” he informed.
