Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday dared Congress to list out any single contribution of the party towards the development of the state since Independence.
Addressing a Shiromani Akali Dal conference in Amritsar, the Chief Minister said it was on record that Congress had always done grave injustice to the state by adopting anti-Punjab stance. "Due to the wrong policies of successive Congress governments at the Centre, industry and agriculture in the state has been ruined," he said.
"We have been wrongfully deprived of our capital and legitimate share of river waters," he added. Instead of recognising the contribution of the people of Punjab in safeguarding border areas and in the field of agriculture, Congress has always derailed development process in the state, the Chief Minister said.
Coming down heavily on the Congress-led UPA government, Badal said the Food Security Bill was nothing more than a political gimmick and Congress was not serious about its passage in Parliament.
Badal said it was unfortunate that due to wrong policies of Congress, people don't get two square meals even after six decades of Independence. "Due to diplomatic failure of the UPA government almost all neighbouring countries have adopted a hostile attitude towards India," he alleged and said, due to poor economic situation, the country's prestige has touched the lowest ebb globally.
Lashing out against the Centre, Badal said, "The ever increasing inflation has resulted in price rise, which has in turn increased the common man's pangs." "Corruption and unemployment were ruling the roost in the country, hindering our progress despite the huge manpower and bounty of natural resources," he said, adding that the writing on wall was clear that NDA would form the next government at the Centre.
