A 38-year-old man suffered serious head injuries as he was attacked by private bus staff at the mofussil bus stand in Kozhikode while boarding a bus along with his family on Monday.
The incident took place at 11.20 am when Kabeer C V hailing from Kallayi, his wife Hazeena and three children were waiting for Manjeri bus at the bus stand. They were on their way to Kabeer’s elder brother’s residence at Siyankandam.
“We were about to board a private bus named Malabar. But the conductor stopped us and asked where we were going. As we replied, we were told that the bus would not stop at Siyankandam. When Kabeer questioned, the conductor demanded full tickets for our children to board the bus. Later, Kabeer was forced out of the bus and four busmen attacked him with an iron rod. Other private bus men also attacked us,’’ said Hazeena.
Kabeer, who suffered head injuries, was taken to the Beach Hospital initially. Later, he was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and he required eight stitches. Hazeena said the bus men also misbehaved with her and her children.
They deliberately attacked my husband and insulted us before other passengers as we were asking the reason for not stopping the bus at Siyankandam, which is a compulsory bus-stop,” she said.
Following their complaint, Kasaba police registered a case against four bus men, who could be identified by Kabeer, at the mofussil bus stand. A case has been registered under Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
