NEDUMBASSERY: Confusion prevailed on Cochin International Airport premises here on Friday when Air India announced the cancellation of some of its flights as oil companies issued a notice curtailing the supply of fuel and demanding AI to settle fuel charge arrears reportedly amounting to Rs 1200 crore. The passengers and their relatives who reached the airport raised protests against the irresponsibility of the AI.However, sources claimed that the passengers were informed sufficiently early about the possibility of the cancellation of the flights owing to fuel crisis.AI had announced that the Riyad-bound AI flight from Thiruvananthapuram via Kochi (AI 928/929) would be cancelled on Friday. But the passengers who arrived without knowing the cancellation turned violent and shouted slogans. They even prevented AI staff from going out of the airport. Around 164 passengers had reserved tickets to travel from Kochi to Riyad.Interestingly, the AI management later decided to resume the operation of the flight.
