THENI/PUDUKOTTAI: The driver of a private bus, proceeding to Kumili from Chennai, was injured when a gang hurled a petrol bomb at the bus near Theni on Tuesday morning. Three more buses were damaged in other incidents.Security has been beefed up in vulnerable areas of Theni district following the violence broke out at Paramakudi on Sunday. Only skeleton bus services were operated by TNSTC along Theni, Periyakulam, Bodi, Andipatti, Cumbum, Kumili and other areas with armed police escorts. Bus services to rural areas were withdrawn after six pm.On Tuesday morning, when a private bus from Bangalore to Kumili was passing Annanji junction, a gang had stopped the vehicle and lobbed a petrol bomb into it. Selvaraj, driver of the bus and a resident of Mettupatti in Dindigul disrict, was injured. He has been admitted to the Theni medical college hospital. DSP Pushpam inspected the damaged bus and the venue. The windscreen of a TNSTC bus was damaged when a mob hurled stones at it at Uppukkottai near Theni. Another bus, proceeding from Cumbum to Chennai, was damaged in stone throwing by a mob on Monday. On Monday night, when a police team from Allinagaram police station was on patrol duty, a mob had hurled bottles at the officers. Police managed to chase them.Hunt on for Gang in PudukottaiA hunt is on for an unidentified gang which hurled a petrol bomb at a private bus on Monday around midnight near Okkur Karur in Avudaiyarkoil taluk in the district.Reports said the private bus which was proceeding to Tiruppunavasal from Pattukottai on Monday night was intercepted by a gang of six riding on three bikes at Saathiyakudi village near Okkur. The four occupants of the bus, driver Manimuthu (35), S Sathiyamurthy (37), the ticket checker and one passenger were disembarked and the gang smashed the front glass panes and hurled two petrol bombs at the bus as they made good their escape. Part of the bus was damaged in the attack.The Aranthangi police are investigating.
