Islamabad: At least five people were killed and over 10 injured as target killings and violence erupted in the southern port city of Karachi following the shooting of an ex-security guard of assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, a media report said on Sunday.

The riots were sparked off after the killing of Aamir Shah, president of the Peoples Unity of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Employees Union Saturday, the News reported.

According to the police, unidentified armed assailants gunned down three people near a football ground in Baldia Town No.8.

Unidentified people gunned down an activist of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Federal "B" area near Naseerabad.

In a separate incident, some men opened fire at a vehicle at MT Khan Road killing its 25-year-old occupant.

A Ranger was injured after unknown assailants fired at him near ICC Bridge.

Over 10 people were injuredd in separate firing incidents in Macchar Colony, Malir, Alflah Society, Agra Taj Colony, Lyari, New Karachi and other areas of the city.

Aamir Shah was on his way Saturday along with his friend when armed men opened fire at his car in Kamran Chowrangi area of Karachi city. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injures.
