HYDERABAD: After being on the run for more than a week since the Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths unearthed disproportionate assets worth over `2.25 crore, the suspended inspector of Chaitanyapuri police station, P Praveen Reddy surrendered before the watchdog agency on Saturday. His father, P Buchhi Reddy, a retired RDO, had already been arrested and sources said that Praveen Reddy gave himself up for his father's sake. A civil contractor, Srikanth Reddy, who allegedly provided shelter to Praveen was also arrested by the ACB.Sources said that Praveen Reddy had not gone out of the state and came back for his father. "Buchhi Reddy is 70 years old and if Praveen had not surrendered, it would have been difficult for his father to get bail as the case would have been pending," sources said. The ACB had recently raided the residence of the inspector and unearthed disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2.25 crore belonging to Praveen and his father. The agency found property documents, 10 tolas gold, Rs 95,000 in cash among other valuables from the house. Subsequently, they arrested Buchhi Reddy on January 6. But since the raid, Praveen Reddy was on the run and the Cyberabad police commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao had placed him under suspension. He was allegedly helped by Srikanth Reddy who gave him shelter and other logistical support. "He helped Praveen in frequently changing his place of stay. For sometime, he sheltered him in a house in Jubilee Hills," sources said.Sources said Praveen came on the ACB's radar following the arrest of DSP M Sarveshwar Reddy, who was working as officer on Special Duty in Vikarabad. It is learnt that both Sarveshwar and Praveen had indulged in large scale corruption.
