BANGALORE: The hostility between the police and advocates seemed to worsen with policemen deciding to stage a black badge protest in the city on Friday. The dawn-to-dusk protest has been called by the Karnataka State Police Association, where the police would work wearing black badges from 6 am to 6 pm, to protest against the advocates. The association has alleged that advocates were slapping false cases against policemen in connection with the March 2 incidents. “The advocates are trying to pressurise the High Court by filing false cases and by boycotting proceedings. Police personnel must join hands and register a peaceful protest against the ill-deeds of advocates,” the association stated. The association’s decision was announced a few hours after family members of policemen staged a protest at Mahatma Gandhi statue on Race Course Road on Thursday. They demanded action against lawyers who attacked police and journalists. The protest was held by Karnataka State Police Family Members’ Association, who alleged that the government was not taking steps to curb the “despotic” attitude of advocates.Meanwhile, in the wake of the advocates’ protest at the City Civil Court complex on Friday, DG & IGP Shankar Bidari and the City Police Commissioner headed a meeting of the top brass where it was decided to deploy a large police contingent. All DCPs of the city, two ACPs from each division, 10 inspectors and other policemen will be deployed. Also, prohibitory orders clamped in some areas since March 2, have been extended till March 18 midnight. The orders will be in force under Ashoknagar, Ulsoor Gate, S J Park, S R Nagar, Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, High Grounds, Chickpet, Uppartpet and City Market police station limits.
