The gunbattle began in the early hours of Friday in the hilly jungles of Jama block in Jharkhand's Dumka district.
Dumka (Jharkhand): A police officer was killed and two policemen were injured in a fierce encounter with Maoists on Friday in the hilly jungles of Jama block in Jharkhand's Dumka district.
"The officer-in-charge of Jama police station Satanand Singh died on the spot when a bullet hit him in the head during the gunfight," said Deputy Inspector General of Police B K Pandey.
Two others, including a constable of Special Task Force, Ravi Shankar, were injured in the gunbattle.
The encounter began in the early hours of the day, he said. Senior police officers have rushed to Dumka from Ranchi, police sources said.
