VELLORE: After almost two months, Tamilselvi Chandrasekar (45) of Vellore ate her lunch in peace and rested for an hour in the afternoon as there was no power cut for half the day on Thursday. Most homemakers in the district are happy after District Collector, Ajay Yadav ordered the officials of the Electricity Board to abstain from cutting power power during the plus two board examinations that began on Thursday. The examinations end on March 18. Tamilselvi and her mother-in-law, Indirani, can now watch TV serials during the afternoon for the next one month. This has come as a ‘Women’s Day’ Gift, adding to their joy. The Chief Educational Officer, Pon Kumar said, “There was no report of power cut from the 119 examination centres in Vellore on Thursday. But, if necessary, we are ready with generators to meet the situation. I also wish that there is no power cut between 6 pm to 9.30 pm, as that is when the students prepare for the next day’s exam.”Apart from homemakers, small traders and shopkeepers of the business areas were also glad as most of the examination centres are situated in the main commercial areas. Superintendent Engineer, Vellore, Leelavathi said, “We see to it that there is no power cut during the examination timings between 10 am and 1 pm.” However, she added that,  the electricity board is also in a position to follow the load shedding hours and so, power supply might be suspended at some other time.
