Two students were shot and injured by the police guard of the Patna University proctor during a ragging incident.

Patna: A day after two students were shot and injured by the police guard of the Patna University proctor during a ragging incident, student groups on Tuesday stepped up protests for the removal of the varsity's top official.

As the students pressed their demand for the removal of the proctor and Vice-Chancellor, the constable responsible for the incident was arrested.

Hundreds of students belonging to the ABVP, NSUI and AISA, the students organisations of the BJP, Congress and CPI-ML, locked the university's administrative office and held sit-ins and protests at various colleges in support of their demand for the removal of the officials.

Vice Chancellor S Ehtashamuddin, Registrar Vibhash Kumar Yadav and other top varsity officials did not attend office and were not available to comment on the situation in the campus.

Bharat Paswan, the police guard of Proctor Kirteswar Prasad who had opened fire at the Patna Science College on Monday and injured two students, Mohammed Ali and Rohit Raman, was arrested.

A case under section 307 (attempted murder) of the IPC was registered against him, Superintendent of Police Vikas Vaibhav said.

The incident occurred when Paswan challenged some senior students engaged in ragging freshers. After heated exchanges, Paswan opened fire. The two injured students were admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital.
