Pune Porsche Crash: Who Were Two IT Professionals Killed?

Pune has been rocked by headlines following a tragic accident in which a Porsche driven by an inebriated 17-year-old fatally struck a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two young professionals in the early hours of Sunday.

Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, were returning from dinner with friends when the speeding Porsche struck their motorcycle at the Kalyani Nagar junction.

Ashwini was seated behind Anis, who was riding the bike. Both succumbed to their injuries.

Who is Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta?

Ashwini, a native of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, had planned a surprise for her father’s upcoming birthday in June, her mother, Mamta Koshta, revealed, as per Hindustan Times report. “Just a day before the accident, Ashwini informed me that she will be returning home in Jabalpur and had booked her ticket for June 18 to surprise her father on her birthday. However, it ended this way,” she said.

“We were supposed to send her off in a palanquin (to the groom’s house) after her marriage (in future), but now we were forced to carry her body on a bier,” expressed Ashwini’s grief-stricken mother to news agency PTI in Jabalpur following the completion of her final rites.

She added, “She was one among a million. She had so many dreams and now everything is left here only.”

On the other hand, Anis, who hailed from Birsinghpur Pali in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, had been working in Pune for about a year and a half. He had graduated from DY Patil College of Engineering in Pune.

According to Anis’s father, Om Awadhiya, he was not only supporting himself and his family financially but was also taking care of his younger brother, who also lived with him and studied in Pune.

“The culprit will get punishment…That is okay…But how can we bring back our child now? He had spoken to his mother just two days before the incident and told us that he will come soon. He was a big support for the family,” said Anis’s father, his lament echoing, “What will happen to my younger son now? Who will take care of his expenses in Pune?.”

Court Orders Ignite Controversy

The 17-year-old, who was driving the speeding Porsche and allegedly drunk, appeared before the Juvenile Justice Board and was granted bail on the same day. The decision to grant bail has sparked controversy due to the conditions imposed, which include volunteering with the traffic police and composing an essay on road accidents.

“The CCL (Child in Conflict with Law) will write an essay of 300 words on the topic of road accidents and their solutions,” the order had stated.

Meanwhile, the police have filed a case against the teen under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The father of the minor, Vishal Agrawal, was taken into custody on Tuesday evening in central Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar town. The teenager’s father, a prominent real estate developer, was apprehended by the crime branch officers investigating the accident case. He was then transported to the city later that evening.

“We have arrested him in the case and he will be produced before a court on Wednesday,” stated Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to the media.
