NAGERCOIL: As heavy rains continued to lash the district, low lying areas and various parts of Nagercoil town were inundate on Monday.On Sunday, eastern parts of the district experienced heavy rain, while the western parts received only slight drizzle. Meanwhile, on Monday morning, the sky was cloudy, whereas in the ternoon there was heavy downpour in Nagercoil town and adjoining areafas, because of which low lying areas were inundated for some hours.The intensity of the rain became low in eastern parts of the district like Marthandam, Thiruvattar and Kulasekharam. However, due to the heavy downpour in catchment areas of dams on Sunday, there was a heavy flow in rivers originating from hills. The flood waters from ‘Nandhiyaru’ river, flowing near Thirunandhikarai in the district, entered into the ‘Thirunandhieswarar’ temple situated on the banks of this river.
