BANGALORE: The residents of V Nagenahalli Ward want the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities to take up strengthening of drains at various places in the ward to avoid rain water entering their houses in monsoon. There is neither a shoulder drain nor an open drain on the 1st Cross of Patel Mniyappa Layout. Lack of proper drainage facility is making life miserable for the people living in low-lying areas. “We have to make arrangements on our own to prevent the rain water enter the house. We have already complained to the Corporator about it but she is yet to take a decision on making a provision for a drain here,’’ rues a resident on condition of anonymity. However, the residents of M R Garden have appreciated the Corporator for taking up works such as strengthening of drains and asphalting the roads. “She took the initiative to strengthen the drains and asphalt the road. We have no complaints about the basic amenities,’’ says L Pranesh, a resident, 2nd Cross of M R Garden.Areas such as Gosaiya Slum, Guddahalli, V Nagenahalli, Yagappa Layout, Kanakanagar, IOE Layout, Cholanayakanahalli, Manorayanapalya are the important areas of V Nagenahalli Ward. The residents of Kushalappa Layout at Kanakanagar complain about the heaps of garbage and open drains that choked with debris. “The open drains in our area need immediate attention from the BBMP authorities. With no civic employee cleaning the open drains, it has become difficult for us to cope with the stench that emanates from the stagnated water. We are suffering from acute shortage of water,’’ adds M Madduramma, a resident of Kushalappa Layout.Meanwhile, Muniratnamma, Corporator, says that the BBMP had sanctioned `3 crore for development works for the year 2010-11. “I have constructed a ward office and a school building at an estimated cost of `70 lakh each at Doddanna Layout,’’ adds Muniratnamma. She claims, “I have constructing 300 houses with the cooperation of Slum Clearance Board and 175 houses for economically poor families under 22.75 per cent scheme.” She adds that the BBMP had allocated `3 crore to take up development works for the year 2011-12 but the funds are yet to be released. “The BBMP plans to take up storm water drain work with an estimated cost of `25 lakh at CIL Layout.
