HYDERABAD: GMR’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) received the first prize in Private Institutions, two second place prizes in the best rotaries (traffic islands) and the best ornamental gardens in residential townships, in the ‘Garden Festival 2012’ that was conducted by the department of Horticulture, State government.Given out by the Minister for Horticulture, Govt of A P, Ram Reddy Venkata Reddy, the award function was presided over by the Commissioner of Horticulture, Govt of A P, I Rani Kumudini , IAS, at the valedictory function of the Horticulture exhibition that was conducted at the People’s Plaza, Necklace Road.RGIA won the award despite competition from other competitors including several IT companies, industries, institutions, and resorts in and around Hyderabad. Each year, the Department of Horticulture, Govt of A P, organizes the garden festival during the month of January. During this, the department encourages the garden growers of private/ government institutes, colleges, industries, hospitals, and individuals etc., to showcase their landscaped gardens. They are judged by a panel of experts in the field and are evaluated based on the quality standards of development and maintenance.
