CHENNAI: Giving effect to one more announcement made in the State Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday accorded administrative sanctions for a number of measures for efficient functioning of over 45,000 anganwadis. This, besides filling 28,596 vacancies in noon-meal centres and anganwadis so that holistic development of children between the age group of 0 and 6 years, pregnant and lactating mothers and adolescent girls, all numbering 28 lakh, can be ensured.Apart from these, to ensure efficient functioning of noon-meal centres and anganwadis, 4,373 posts of noon-meal organisers, 5,717 cooks in noon-meal centres, 6,703 posts of assistants to cooks, 4,689 posts of anganwadi workers and 7,114 posts of anganwadi assistants will be filled immediately.The CM said the infrastructure facilities at the 17,821 anganwadi centres would be improved at a cost of `47.61 crore, under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). Further, 43,345 centres would be provided with power connections and lighting and electric fan facilities so that children and other beneficiaries in the centres could spend comfortable time, both during summer and winter. The government would spend `27.21 crore towards this. Children-friendly toilets would also be constructed.
