HYDERABAD: The state government is all set to notify 16 structures as heritage buildings soon for their unique architectural style, aesthetics and historical, cultural or sociological significance.Speaking to Express, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials said that they had issued a notification inviting suggestions and objections from citizens and organisations for the proposed 16 heritage buildings in May. But they have received only three suggestions for two of the buildings - Moosi Maternity hospital in New Malakpet and State Bank of India in Koti. The Heritage Conversation Committee (HCC) will meet in the next few days to study these suggestions. But the road is clear for notifying the remaining 14 structures as heritage buildings as no objections were put forward. The notified structures are used for religious, educational, commercial and entertainment purposes. After getting a green signal from the HCC, HMDA will prepare a detailed report and forward it to the state government requesting to issue orders to notify them as heritage structures.Presently, there are about 150 government notified heritage buildings and 20 odd heritage precincts in and around Greater Hyderabad. These buildings are in a bad shape due to lack of support from HMDA and state government. Nearly 70 per cent of the newly proposed heritage buildings are privately owned. The number of government-owned heritage buildings in the city is sizable, making it the the single largest owner of heritage buildings.
