MANGALORE: Buoyed by the National Youth Festival’s success, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda pledged to revamp schemes and introduce new programmes through the Department of Youth Services and Sports, keeping the interests of youth in mind."My government will take a lead from this festival and will revamp schemes to empower youth, he declared at the colourful valedictory programme of the festival held at Mangala Stadium in Mangalore on Monday. “From now on, Youth Week will be celebrated in a more meaningful way. The youth rally will be modelled more on the lines of youth festival. We will broad-base it by introducing new competitions, events in order to inspire fresh talent,” he said.The training programmes in life skills development will be strengthened and scope will be expanded to imbibe the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.He revealed that his initial apprehensions at the start of the festival had turned into happiness at the valedictory ceremony. The youth power that has come to fore on this platform should be sustained, he said.Arjuna awardee M P Ganesh, Dyan Chand awardee Uday K Prabhu, Arjun Devaiah, Vandana Rao, Deputy Speaker in Legislative Assembly N Yogish Bhat, District Minister Krishna J Palemar, MLA Abhaychandra Jain and others were present on the occasion.
