Bhubaneswar: A sex racket operating from a posh guest house in Bhubaneswar allegedly owned by a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Rajya Sabha Memeber of Parliament (MP) has sparked an uproar in the Orissa assembly for the last two days.
The opposition tried to stall the house shouting that the Chief Minister is shielding the MP as he is very close to him.
The Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes when the entire opposition marched towards the well of the house to demand action against BJD MP Pyarimohan Mahapatra who allegedly owns the guesthouse in Bhubaneswar where a sex racket was busted recently.
Eight persons have been arrested in connection with the scandal.
But the opposition said that the MP was aware of this racket and he should be arrested soon.
"This is a serious issue and it must be discussed in the house and action should be taken," said Leader of Opposition J B Patnaik.
Mahapatra is considered to be a close confidant and advisor of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and is said to be the man behind all the important political decision.
The opposition alleged the CM is trying to shield the MP and not taking any action on the matter. However the CM termed the entire allegation as baseless.
"The charges made by the opposition are totally fabricated," said Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik.
There are many leaders both in the ruling and the opposition parties who have been adversely affected by many of Naveen Patnaik's decision that had been taken after advice by the BJD MP.
Now that they have got an issue to nail the MP and the CM they are not missing out any chances.
However after much debate and adjournment the Speaker allowed to members to discuss the matter on Wednesday.
