BANGALORE: Chowdeswari Ward is the second ward of Bruhat Banagalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) 198 wards. The BBMP had spent around Rs 5 crore last year to take up various developmental projects and dug borewells to mitigate water woes.Harohalli, Nagenahalli, Kenchanahalli, Puttenahalli, 5th phase of Nagarjuna Apartments, J P Colony, Kondappa Layout and Kamakshamma Layout are some of the important areas of Chowdeswari Ward. This newly added wards of BBMP, is craving for immediate attention of the authorities because of the civic woes in this area. Most of the roads in this ward needs asphalted and drains to be strengthened.“We concretised many roads and many drains were strengthened. There were number of open drains. We have also taken measures to cover these drains with cement blocks,” said K V Yashoda, Corporator. To ensure regular supply of water, the BBMP authorities have connected water from five borewells to a sump and supply the water to Mavarthi Veedhi, Bestara Veedhi, Puhskarani Road, Kote Veedi, Keregode Veedhi, Down Bazar and Hosa Veedhi. However, residents of Kamakshamma Layout are unhappy with the shortage of water. They demanded the BBMP authorities to supply water on regular basis and also take up repair works wherever water pipes were damaged.“As of now, we have not received water for more than 15 days. The authorities are citing damaged water pipe as the cause for non-supply of water. I want them to replace the damaged water pipe and ensure water supply on regular basis,” said Mahaboom Jaan, a resident of Kamakshamma Layout. Most of the residents are from neighbouring states and they depend on powerlooms for survival. They cannot afford to buy water and store it, as most of the houses have no sump facilities. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has taken up under-ground drainage (UGD) work at many parts of this ward. However, the residents are not happy with the progress of this work.“They have dug up this road to lay UGD pipes but forgotten to asphalt it, even after three months,” complained a housewife on condition of anonymity. The other major demand is a provision for a park. It is surprising to see that Chowdeswari Ward, that spreads to 7.05 square kilometre, has no park in vicinity.“It will be a great help if the BBMP develops a park on government land. They have to take measures to asphalt the road that leads to the burial ground,” said N Shivakumar, a resident of Nagenahalli.Confirming with Shivakumar on the need to develop a park, Yashoda said that BBMP will consider developing a park in this area.“Now, our focus is to streamline water supply and strengthen the existing drains. We are waiting for BWSSB to complete the UGD work. As soon as they complete the job, we will asphalt the roads,” said Yashoda.
