Soderling strolls into French Open semis, Murray out
Soderling will play his first Grand Slam semi-final against Fernando Gonzalez.

Paris: Swede Robin Soderling built on the momentum that allowed him to beat Rafael Nadal and reached the the French Open semi-finals on Tuesday with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 drubbing of Russian 10th seed Nikolay Davydenko.

Soderling will play his first Grand Slam semi-final against Chile's Fernando Gonzalez, seeded 12th.

The 23rd seeded Soderling, who created one of the biggest upsets in tennis when he handed top seed Nadal his first defeat at Roland Garros in the fourth round, raced through the first set in 23 minutes after Davydenko claimed only 10 points.

He broke twice to take the second and twice in the third and Davydenko bowed out on the second match point after one hour 41 minutes.

Murray's clay dream crushed

Third seed Andy Murray was outclassed on his least favourite surface by Chile's Fernando Gonzalez on Tuesday, losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 in the French Open quarter-finals.

The 12th seed broke in the eighth game before serving out the set and claiming it with a forehand winner on his fourth set point.

The Scot, who has never won a title on clay, levelled the match when the Chilean sent a forehand long.

Murray seemed to lose concentration as Gonzalez tormented him with dropshots and lobs in a 24-minute third set that ended when Murray slammed a routine smash into the net.

Gonzalez won on his first match point in the fourth when Murray's forehand hit the top of the net and bounced back towards him.

In the semi-finals the Chilean will face Soderling.
