Bengal might have to do without the services of Sourav Ganguly.

New Delhi: As Bengal begin their quest to get back into the Elite League of the Ranji Trophy, they might have to do so without the services of Sourav Ganguly.

According to a national daily, Ganguly, who will retire from international cricket after the ongoing India-Australia series, is unlikely to turn up for his state side in the Plate League which will kick off next month.

However, the Cricket Association of Bengal is doing all it can to convince the former India captain.

Bengal chief selector Sambaran Banerjee reportedly stated that he would definitely request Sourav to play the Ranji Trophy.

At the moment, Sourav Ganguly is playing the test series against Australia. The first test, played in Bangalore, was drawn.

Just before the test series began, Sourav had announced his retirement from international cricket, saying that he was "hurt" and therefore he had decided to retire.

In a scathing interview to a Bengali newspaper Aaj Kaal, Ganguly - who announced his retirement from international cricket last week - said, "There is no point playing like this. I am not willing to play at their (selectors') mercy. They will pick you now and then dump you. Why should I be the sacrificial goat all the time? It was difficult to accept."

What's your reaction?
