CHENNAI: St Joseph College of Engineering at Sriperumbudur inaugurated the Sri Ramanujam Maths Club and conducted a workshop on Cryptography and Graph Theory. The chief guest for the event were Dr S Arumugam, senior professor of research and director n-Cardmath, Kalasalingam University. The guest of honour was K Ram Kumar, assistant general manager (sales), The New Indian Express, Ambattur. The workshop was conducted by Dr S Arumugam, Dr D Gnana Raj Thomas, associate professor at Madras Christian College, and Dr D Sundara Kannan, assistant professor of SSN College of Engineering.The faculty members and students were recognised with awards of excellence and awards for hundred percent attendance. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions. Addressing the students Dr Arumugam stressed the importance of mathematics in engineering colleges. He briefed the participants about the life of Ramanujam and his achievements and motivated the students to be passionate about whatever they do in life. Ram Kumar encouraged the students to develop their core competence and advised them to be proactive in all situations.Faculties from various colleges participated in the workshop. The programme was organised by the Department of Mathematics.
