Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has issued orders on Tuesday to make 'surya namaskar' mandatory in all government and private schools in the state with immediate effect.
The order issued by the office is in line with that of Madhya Pradesh government which issued a similar direction a while back. Critics have alleged that it is a move to saffronise education.
Effectively this order will be applicable for over 48,000 government schools with private ones following the order as well. The order has said that it will help improve the academic environment in schools and the physical and mental health of students.
The state government's decision faces sharp opposition by many civil rights groups who are not welcoming the decision very enthusiastically.
