Perambalur (Tamil Nadu): The teacher-student relationship seems to be getting worse not just in colleges, but also in schools. A high school teacher in Perambalur was arrested for allegedly beating more than 40 students.
The students of a private school in Kunnam in Perambalur district walk for more than four kilometers everyday to reach their place of study. But unfortunately there no water for them to drink once they reach. When parents complained to the headmaster, he beat the students.
"He beat me with bamboo stick. I begged him but he chased and beat me till I was too injured to run," a student of class VII, Devi said.
Dinesh Kumar, the Headmaster was angry with parents intervening and allegedly beat the students for more than two hours. Forty of them were severely injured and had to be rushed to the nearby government hospital.
"The Headmaster said we all had no right bringing up the water issue when we had such low marks. He said he is beating us to convey this our parents. Then he started beating us more badly," the injured student, Iyappan said.
"We are now very scared. How do we trust the teachers with our children anymore," a parent, Jayachandran said.
Though the Headmaster is under arrest, following a complaint filed by some of the parents, parents are still worried about sending their children to this school.
