Teachers threaten to jump from DEOs office

SANGAREDDY: Several teachers created a flutter at the district educational officer’s (DEO) office here on Wednesday threatening to jump down from the building if they were not allowed to take part in the ongoing counselling for transfers.About 15 teachers, belonging to various districts but working in Medak, approached the court and obtained stay on GO 610 which directed them to go to their native districts.Following the court orders, the education officials, for the last few years, had not been inviting the 15 teachers to counselling stating that they do not have any permission to transfer them.However, the teachers said that they had gone to the court to obtain stay on being transferred to other districts and that they were willing to be transferred to other schools in Medak.They said that they had appealed to the DEO to allow them to participate in the counselling several times earlier but that there was no response.Many officials and colleagues tried to pacify the 15 teachers but in vain.    They advised the protesting teachers to approach court again and obtain orders as they wished but not to commit suicide. But the 15 teachers did not get down from the building.On being informed about the incident, district collector S Suresh Kumar sent DRO Wilson Babu to the DEO office to placate the teachers. On being advised by the DRO, the teachers agreed to approach the court again and climbed down the building. As many as 400 teachers from various parts in the district attended the counselling for SGTs held on Wednesday.
