Telangana Woman Hands Over Her Baby To Orphanage After Failing To Take Responsibility
The baby was born to a couple residing in Mahbubnagar, who worked as labourers.

A heart-wrenching incident of a child being given to an orphanage after two women couldn’t take her responsibility has come to light in Mahbubnagar, Telangana. According to Local 18 Telangana, Lingam and Renuka were a couple residing in Mahbubnagar and worked as labourers. They have 2 daughters; then Renuka got pregnant for the 3rd time. Earning only a meagre income, and having another mouth to feed became a problem for them. These problems were exacerbated by the death of Lingam due to an illness. Post his death, Renuka gave birth to her daughter in the hospital. She was facing problems due to the death of her husband and the resources required to raise 2 children. Unable to take on the responsibility of the 3rd child, she handed over the baby to another couple named Chennayya and Manemma. Renuka had met them in the same hospital where she gave birth to her 3rd baby. Chennayya and Manemma earned their living by doing odd jobs. They adopted and raised Renuka’s daughter as their own for a few months. They named her Jessica.

After some time, Chennayya died due to a heart attack, and the responsibility of raising Jessica fell on Manemma. She used to buy milk cartons for the baby while going to work. She also fell ill after some time and entrusted the baby girl’s care to her mother-in-law. Manemma’s mother-in-law took the baby girl to Renuka and asked her to accept the child back. The elderly lady told Renuka that Manemma asked her to do so, even if she couldn’t purchase milk for the baby. Renuka was still struggling to earn for her 2 daughters.

With no other solution available, Renuka and Manemma’s mother-in-law decided to hand over a baby to an orphanage in Mahbubnagar after expressing their plight.

An orphanage is an institution that takes care of orphans. It will care for babies and also older children who have no parents. These institutions care for children until they can be placed in homes and adopted. Adoption from an orphanage is allowed under the Guardians and Wards Act of 1890, subject to court approval.
