Threat leads to change of route

KOCHI: Around 12 noon on Monday, the Kerala Police got an intelligence alert about a possible attack by fishermen on the Italian marines, arrested on Sunday, while they  passed through  the coastal hamlets along the NH-47.This led to a last-minute change in their travel route from Kochi to Karunagappally.“A last-minute change was made on the basis of intelligence reports that fishermen community may attack the accused. It could have been a small attack but had the potential to escalate into an international issue,” Ernakulam range IG K Padmakumar said.Earlier, it was planned to take Latore Massimiliano and Salvatore Girone through the National Highway. Later, they were taken through the MC Road via Kottayam.
