TN begins work on boreholes

KUMILI:Tamil Nadu on Monday started work on filling the boreholes drilled to test the strength of the Mullaperiyar dam and baby dam.The work began after Kerala gave  green signal to Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu had made two futile attempts earlier, but Kerala had objected to it stating that it was yet to receive permission from the Supreme Court-appointed expert committee. Now, the committee has permitted Kerala to allow the filling.Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking deployment of CISF near the dam citing lack of cooperation from Kerala.She demanded that the drilled holes in the dam must be filled before the onset of the monsoon to prevent damage to the structure.
