CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced the candidates for all 10 municipal corporations in the State. Of the 10 candidates, six are women.The candidates are: Saidai S Duraisamy (Chennai), B Karthiyayini (Vellore), S Soundappan (Salem), Mallika Paramasivam (Erode), SM Velusamy (Coimbatore), A Visalakshi (Tiruppur), MSR Jaya (Tiruchy), VV Rajan Chellappa (Madurai), Vigila Sathyananth (Tirunelveli) and L Sasikala Pushpa (Tuticorin).Saidai Duraisamy is a former MLA who contested against former Deputy Chief Minister MK Stalin in Kolathur constituency in the April 13 Assembly elections but lost due to last minute turnaround of votes.B Karthiyayini, who is a PhD, is from Kangeyanallur. S Soundappan is the former Deputy Mayor of Salem Corporation and the joint secretary of Salem South constituency. Mallika Paramasivam is the secretary of Erode district women’s wing of the party, Visalakshi is the deputy secretary of the women’s wing, SM Velusamy is a former minister and secretary of the Coimbatore city MGR Mandram and MSR Jaya is from NJ Residency Officers Colony, Puthur.VV Rajan Chellappa is a former Rajya Sabha Member and former secretary of Madurai urban district unit of the party. Vijila Sathyananth hailing from Murugankurichi, is the executive member of the party and L Sasikala Pushpa is the deputy secretary of the party’s Youth Brigade.
