CHENNAI/VELLORE: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a suburban traffic sub-inspector for accepting a bribe from a man at Kondithope on Monday.Damodaran (51), a sub-inspector with the Madhavaram traffic investigation wing was arrested when he took Rs 1000 from a man named Babu (29) of Kaaladipet, Thiruvottiyur at Munnusamy street, Kondithope. Damodaran had filed a case against Babu after he hit his two-wheeler on a car on May 1 at Manjakuppam, Madhavaram.Despite Babu paying a fine in the court, the sub-inspector reportedly did not return his license. Babu had made many calls to the sub-to return his license. During one such phone call, the policeman had told Babu that he would give his license in return for a bribe of Rs 3000, which he later reduced. Babu then filed a complaint with the DVAC and called the SI, asking him  to meet him. As the sub-inspector accepted the bribe from Babu, DVAC officials nabbed him.70 Bootleggers Arrested in RaidsThe PEW arrested seventy bootleggers in Vellore district. The raids were carried out on July 16 and 17 at locations known for the manufature of hooch. Among those who were arrested, there were sixteen women including a sexegenarian from Chettithangal village near Ranipet, whose arrest the district Collector had ordered. One autorickshaw and five two wheelers were also seized. About 92 duplicate electrical ballasts with the Crompton Greaves brand name on them, were seized.
