VIJAYAWADA: The South India Motor Transport Association called off its five-day strike on Tuesday.Speaking to Express, Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association general secretary, Y V Eswara Rao said SIMTA, APLOA president Gopal Naidu and All-India Motor Transport Congress president R Shanmugappa met road transport and highways minister CP Joshi who agreed to their demand to restrict toll tax to 50 pc on registered vehicles in district where toll gate is located. He also agreed to decrease toll tax to 3 axled vehicles from `4.75-`2.40 per km at private and government gates.Joshi said they would write to state government to impose a ceiling on sales tax on diesel, decrease customs duty on tyres and to decrease the third party insurance.
