Yeotmal (Maharashtra):The sufferings continue for cotton farmers in Maharashtra.
Two more farmers have committed suicide from two different villages in the Yeotmal district of Maharashtra. They both consumed poison.
Thirty-five-year-old Ambadas Shravan lived in village Bharaja. He had taken a loan of Rs 20,000 from the Allahabad Bank, which he could not pay off. He is survived by his wife and three children.
In the second incident, 33-year-old Vijay Vithal Jore of village Lakhkind had taken a loan of Rs 37,000 from the Central Bank. He is survived bytwo children.
The suicides come just a few days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced a special package of Rs 3,750 crore to bail out debt-ridden farmers of Vidarbha region.
The Prime Minister had on Saturday announced several incentives for the six worst drought-hit districts of Maharashtra.
These include a waiver of Rs 712 crore overdue interest and rescheduling of Rs 1,300 crore agricultural credit over 3-5 years with one year moratorium.
