BANGALORE: Upset over her mother’s scoldings, a 12-year-old girl committed suicide by setting herself ablaze. The tragic incident was reported in New Colony in Vijayanagar on Tuesday. The deceased Padma, was a class five student of The Asian English School in Shamanna Garden. She was the daughter of Selvaraj, a mason, and Varalakshmi.According to the police, the family resides at Varalakshmi’s mother Gangamma’s house. At around 1 pm, Padma returned from school to the construction site, where the family is building a house, and complained of severe headache.Her mother reportedly scolded her that she did not have food on time and that was the reason for the headache. Soon after, she gave food to Padma and returned to the construction site.“When there was nobody at home, Padma poured kerosene and set herself ablaze in the hall. The neighbours noticed and doused the fire. Though they tried to save her, she died of burn injuries. Later, they informed the matter to her parents. Padma’s body was charred in the fire,” police said.Though it is suspected that she committed suicide after her mother scolded her, the exact reason is yet to be ascertained.
