THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The pro-Congress Kerala University Staff Union (KUSU) has petitioned the State Government demanding that a government-level committee be appointed for reviewing the functioning of the university.KUSU, in the petition to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb the other day, pointed out that the University Act had provisions for appointing such a committee.The Union also urged the State Government to order an inquiry into the allegation of misappropriation of funds allotted to various projects by the UGC and the State Government.Another demand of the union was the cancellation of all backdoor appointments made during the past five years and initiation of steps to make appointments as per rules. The Association also demanded an inquiry into the allegation of corruption in giving affiliation to colleges, appointment of teaching and technical staff, tampering of LLB mark-list and tampering of the password of the CBCSS examinations.They also urged steps to initiate revision of salary in 2012 with a view of implementing Central parity by 2013 July.They informed the ministers that the anomalies in the ninth pay revision were detrimental to the interests of the university employees. The salary structure of university employees was lower than the pay-scale of similar posts in government sector following the pay revision, they alleged.Union general secretary K S Girisha Kumar told ‘Express’ that the Ministers had agreed to look into their demands sympathetically.
