Los Angeles: Sex destroyed yet another American politician on Wednesday.

California assemblyman Mike Duvall, who was caught on videotape boasting about his sexual romps to a colleague on the floor of the California state assembly, quit after a local television network aired the videotape on Tuesday night.

Fifty-four-year-old Duvall, who is married and staunch advocate of family values, was caught with his pants down when a microphone of the assembly TV picked up his conversation with a fellow assemblyman in July.

Duvall, who represents President Richard Nixon's hometown of Linda Yorba in the House, didn't think that the microphone was on when he bragged about his sexual exploits. In the videotape, the assemblyman talks about his sexual encounters with two women.

He describes the first woman as 19 years younger than him and says she wore "little eye-patch underwear" during their sexual encounter.

Finally, he says he told the woman, "Now, you're getting old, man, I am going to have to trade you in."

About the second woman, he says, "Sher, Shar, Shar - oh, she is hot. I talked to her yesterday. She goes, 'So are we finished?'"

The assemblyman adds, "I go, no. We aren't finished. I go, 'You know about the other one, but she doesn't know about you.'"

Both the women are said to be married and working for firms that are hired by companies to lobby with politicians.

Duvall resigned on Wednesday morning after he was stripped of his position on two assembly committees. "I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state.”

"I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work," he said in his resignation.

Duvall joins the list of US politicians brought down by sex scandals.

Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer quit in March after his romps with a call-girl came to light.

Former vice-presidential candidate John Edwards had his political ambitions spiked by an extra-marital affair. Former US president Bill Clinton barely survived for his involvement with young White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
