The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted state-wide raids on about 70 outlets of Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) on Saturday.
In the the raid codenamed ‘Operation Bottle’, massive irregularities were detected in the form of manipulation in billing, collecting more price from customers especially during rush hours and promoting brands which offered more commission.
It was found that unaccounted cash of more than Rs 10,000 were stored at many outlets.
It also also found that outlets were not promoting the sale of rum produced by the State-owned Travancore Sugar Mills as it did not yield much commission. Many staff were also found to be possessing excess amount than what was mentioned in the cash registers.
The raids were ordered by Vigilance Director Venugopal K Nair and coordinated by ADGP Vigilance N Shanker Reddy. The raids which began in the afternoon continued till late in the evening.
