THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In yet another visit to the Secretariat by a City Corporation team to bring about a decision in the Vilappilsala issue, one more letter was given to Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali by Mayor K Chandrika. This time, urging him to visit the Vilappilsala waste treatment plant before taking a decision, instead of sitting inside the comfy office and be directed by others. The Mayor and the Deputy Mayor, G Happykumar, who visited the Minister at his office late forenoon on Tuesday, updated the latter on the worsening garbage crisis and the path it could take once the monsoon starts. ‘’We have been after the Chief Minister and the Ministers asking them to decide something on the issue. Or, at the least, to carry out the court orders. We have already handed over a dozen letters to the Ministers and officials concered in this regard,’’ the Mayor said. She also pointed out that none of the Ministers or for that matter few of the officials have been to the Vilappilsala plant to review the works being carried out there. ‘’They do not know how the plant works, what are the construction works happening and what changes it could bring about. Instead, some of the officials and the panchayat mislead them and they take decisions upon their words. We have urged the Minister to visit the plant and judge by himself,’’ Chandrika said. The letter has reminded the Minister of the situation in the city and why urgent steps are needed to prevent an outbreak of epidemics. The team also visited the Home Minister’s office and handed a letter to the Minister’s private secretary. Meanwhile, the Corporation is yet to receive any positive response from the government in the issue. The Mayor said that Minister Ali has promised to raise the issue in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
