BANGALORE: On the international Organ Donation Day (November 27), ‘Gift Your Organ,’ an NGO working for creating awareness and educating on organ donation and transplantation has organised ‘Walk the Green Carpet’ event in the city on Sunday. The event will witness participation of prominent personalities from different walks of life to inspire people to donate organs. Speaking at a press conference Sameer Dua, founder and chief catalyst of Gift Your Organ foundation, said nearly 1,50,000 people await for kidney transplants of which 5,000 get a transplant, whereby only 200 of these get kidney by way of cadaver donations. Two lakh people die of liver disease, 50,000 from heart disease and 10 lakh people suffer from corneal disease and await transplant. Hence, educating the masses on the importance of organ donation is of utmost importance in the country.The foundation has also come up with a powerful badge for people who pledge their organs. The badge states ‘Gift your organ- I have’. By the beginning of 2013, the foundation aims to have a total of 1.5 million take a peldege.
