BANGALORE: Some pavements of Shastrinagar in K R Road are not only filled with garbage but the residents also complained of water woes, they faced every summer season. Women standing with plastic pots for hours together near a public tap is a common sight in this area. When City Express interacted with the residents they not only highlighted the perennial problem of the water shortage but also said that water is being supplied during unearthly hours.Speaking about their problems, Pramila, a resident of Shastrinagar said, “We have water supply either at 12 or at 1 am, and even that at meagre levels. We have been requesting the authority to take some action.”Although residents have time and again complained about the same to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) but in vain. Aswath Narayan, another resident of the same area complained, “In the last five years we have been facing this problem every summer. The corporator of this ward has managed to get the BWSSB supply water to this area.” Residents also added that some powerful people in the area utilise water supplied by BWSSB for their individual usage. On the other hand, some residents also complained that the corporator was not responding to their calls. Garbage disposal is another problem faced by the residents in this area. The garbage which is strewn on the streets and pavements has been emanating abnoxious smell. As a result, the pedestrians have to cover their nose while passing the garbage dumped on the roadside. Venkatesh, another resident said, “Garbage is also dumped in the vacant sites. With the civic workers clearing the garbage once a week, the stink it produces is unbearable. Although we have been complaining about the issue persistently, no action has been taken for clearing the waste dump.” Shastrinagar now demands immediate attention from BWSSB and BBMP to overcome the issues faced by them. The area corporator was not available for any comments.
