KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday raised suspicion that officials concerned were helping packaged drinking water agencies by creating artificial water scarcity at Sabarimala.“There are concerted efforts by some of the officials concerned to stop the flow of water from Kunnar dam to sannidhanam to aid vendors,” the court held. The Court directed the Travancore Devaswom Board to ensure supply of water from Kunnar Dam to Sannidhanam during peak pilgrim seasons.A Division Bench Comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice C T Ravikumar issued the directive following a report filed by the Devaswom Special Commissioner S Jagadeesh on the mandalam makaravilakku festival.Jagadeesh had mentioned in his report that water from Kunnar was not permitted to flow through the pipes to sannidhanam and other neighbouring areas, causing an artificial water scarcity even while the dam was overflowing. The court further observed that the “Punyam Poonkavanam” should be conducted every month and also directed the DGP to deploy adequate police support for the same.
