Agartala: Tripura's Marxist Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address his Cabinet on good governance. Modi is currently on a tour of the North East states.

Defending his decision, the CM asked, "What is wrong in inviting the PM to meet the ministers of my Cabinet? Every state has its own specific problems, characteristics, advantages, disadvantages - the decision is for every respective state to take on its own."

Modi will be in Agartala to inaugurate the second unit of a 726 Mega-watt power plant constructed by ONGC-Tripura Power Company on Monday. The meeting comes after Sarkar had written to Modi raing apprehension on the government's plans to overhaul MGNREGA.

"This is not new in Tripura. The PM is coming so we have extended our invitation to him, so he can come and meet the ministers. We shall submit a memorandum to him on behalf of the council of ministers," Sarkar said.

Speaking over Modi's clean India campaign, he said that they have been doing clean-up activities for the last 3-4 years in Tripura. "Clean India means what? Who doesn't like to see a clean country? Everyone likes to see a clean country. We have been doing it even before the PM launched this initiative," he said.
