The name of the lady constable Pinky Sonkar came to light when Gorakhpur Special Task Force (STF) Unit got a tip off about a gang involved in tampering UP Police Constable exam being conducted by Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board in UP on August 23, 24, 25, 30, and 31.

The STF also recovered five admit cards, high school and Class 12 marksheets from her possession while the police has also arrested her Delhi-based accomplice Devendra Pratap Singh from a village under Bansgaon police station, when he reached the spot to collect money from the three aspirants.

Who is Pinky Sonkar?

According to Police, Pinky Sonkar was posted at Bhinga police station of UP’s Siddharth Nagar district and is under suspension. Officers interrogating Pinky revealed that it was during her suspension period, Pinky was contacted by a person from Delhi, who told her that clearing the exam would cost Rs 20 lakh to each candidate and assured her of hefty commission if she helps in bringing in some suitable aspirants who wishes to clear UP Police Constable Exam 2024.

“Convinced completely by the offer of the Delhi based person, Pinky started making clients through social media. Pinky also finalized a deal of Rs 15 to 20 lakh with 15 people and then started fraud in the name of getting selection in police recruitment,” a source said.

Besides, sources further confirmed that five people had also given an advance of Rs 40,000 each to Pinky Sonkar, while the remaining amount was being transferred gradually.

How was the lady constable caught?

Cops privy to the investigation said the STF unit got activated on August 22, soon after they came to know that the suspended lady constable Pinky Sonkar has given four wheelers to many candidates and has assured them of success in the UP Police Constable Exam 2024. Officers swung into action and arrested the lady constable, along with her driver and other private security personnel, Besides, Police also recovered the admit cards of the five aspirants from her mobile phone.

However during interrogation, Pinky Sonkar admitted her involvement however she said that she dont know about the recruitment process. Besides, she also revealed that during her suspension period, she came in contact with the Delhi based person who confirmed her hefty commission if she brings in some aspirants who wish to clear UP Police Recruitment exam 2024. Therefore, she was in constant touch with the candidate and his family.

She told officers that she had nothing to do with the exam, she was just taking money in the name of selection. However, while interrogating her accomplice Devendra Pratap Singh, who claimed himself to be National Secretary of Nationalist Youth Rights said he hails from Sangam Vihar, New Delhi. He told police that around a year back he came in touch with Pinky through social media. He told Pinky that would get the appointment done for Rs 5 lakhs per candidate. However, Pinky fell in the trap and took money in advance from five candidates. However, the question remains how he was going to get the five candidates’ success in the recruitment exam.

The UP government however is leaving no stone unturned in carrying out the UP Police constable exam. Other than installing biometric verification, including fingerprint and facial recognition, the Yogi Adityanath government has put in place a comprehensive plan to ensure the safe and secure conduct of the high-stakes UP Police constables’ recruitment re-exam, which began on Friday almost six months after cancellation due to a question paper leak in February this year. The examination will be held at 1174 centres in 67 of Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts on August 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31.

On the first day of the UP Police Constable exam, UP Police nabbed around 61 aspirants for using unfair means. Of these one aspirant in Agra was found with a fake Adhar card while in Rae Bareli one aspirant was found wearing a bluetooth device during examination. In the exam more than 30 lakhs candidates have applied in the written examination for 60,244 posts of UP Police constables, according to the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB), the state agency which is holding the test.
