Former Air Force Chief Shashindra Pal Tyagi, commonly known as S P Tyagi, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in Rs 450 crore Agusta Westland bribery case in procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters.

Former Air Force Chief Shashindra Pal Tyagi, commonly known as S P Tyagi, was arrested for his alleged involvement in Rs 450 crore Agusta Westland bribery case in procurement of 12 VVIP helicopters and was sent to four-day CBI custody on Saturday.

- S P Tyagi, also known as Bundle, was born at Indore (Madhya Pradesh) on March 14, 1945.

- Tyagi was announced as the new Indian Air Force (IAF) chief on October 31, 2004 and took charge on January 1, 2005.

- Tyagi served as the Chief of the Air Staff in the IAF from 2005 to 2007. He had joined IAF on December 31, 1963.

- Prior to becoming chief of the IAF, he was commanding the Western Air Command of the air force.

- Tyagi was commissioned in the fighter stream of the IAF on December 31, 1963. During the initial period of his career, he flew Gnats with No.23 Squadron and Hunters of No.27 Squadron.

- The ex-air force chief had participated in the 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan wars.

- He is a recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM) (2003). PVSM is awarded in recognition to peace-time service of the most exceptional order.

- He was appointed as one of the honorary Aide-de-Camps (ADC) of the President of India in 2003.
