Work on at KKNPP secretly: Udayakumar

TIRUNELVELI: Suspecting that work is secretly going on at Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant, PMANE coordinator SP Udayakumar demanded the government to remove uranium fuel from the plant.Koodankulam Struggle Committee members came to the District Collectorate here on Tuesday. As the District Collector was not in the office, they met PA to Collector (general) Chandrasekaran. Udayakumar and committee members M Pushpar-ayan, M P Jesuraj, Sivasubramanian and Fr Thadeus Rajan were present.Later, speaking to reporters Udayakumar said, “We had already asked the district administration to make arrangements for PMANE expert committee to meet with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. To press for this meeting, we met the PA to Collector (general),” he said.He also pointed out that they had not given any ultimatum, but expressed postive response from the district administration. “When we meet the CM, our expert committee would ask her to take steps to remove the uranium fuel from  Koodankulam plant. They would appraise their findings about the dangers,” he said.When asked about their demand to remove the uranium fuel from the plant, he said they suspected that wo-rk was secretly going on at KKNPP, as PM Manmohan Singh had said reactor-1 would start operation soon.He also claimed that the TN Cabinet resolution to halt work at KKNPP until people’s fears were allayed, had not been honoured. “This forced us to demand the removal of the uranium fuel from the plant,” he said.
