Jammu and Kashmir Government has said work on the much-awaited ropeway project from Mubarak Mandi to Mahamaya hilltop via Bagh-e-Bahu in Jammu will commence very soon.
"The work on the Rs 40-crore ropeway project from Mubarak Mandi to Mahamaya hilltop via Bagh-e-Bahu will commence very soon," Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir said while chairing a high-level meeting on Friday.
Mir said the ropeway would add another tourist attraction to the city of temples. He asked the concerned authorities to complete the spade work so that the foundation stone could be laid in the next month.
It was informed that all hurdles like environment, wildlife and forest clearances had been obtained and the construction work would be taken up soon.
The minister directed the authorities to ensure early disposal of land acquisition by providing compensation to private land owners.
He said for the purpose the government had placed Rs 1.86 crore at the disposal of the Collector, Land Acquisition, Jammu, for speedy clearance of land compensation.
Giving details about the proposed project, the minister said the ropeway would have 37 cabin lines from historic Mubarak Mandi Royal palace to Mahamaya Park and onward to Shahbad Bagh-e-Bahu.
The ropeway would have two sections across the Tawi river - one from Mubarak Mandi, Peerkho to Mahmaya Park and another from Mahmaya Park to Shahbad. Each cabin would have a capacity of six seats with modern ventilation facilities, he said.
"We have recently got clearance from the Supreme Court for laying the cable car project between the historic Mubarak Mandi and Bahu Fort. We have completed all departmental formalities and the construction work will be undertaken next month," the Tourism Minister said.
