Vadodara: Prime witness in the Best Bakery case, Zaheera Shaikh, and her mother Sherunissa Shaikh may face another legal battle.
This time from her deceased brother Nafitullah's wife over the custody of four-year-old Sameer.
Heena, mother of Sameer, wants the custody of her son from Zaheera, her in-law Sherunissa and other members of the family, "who had taken the boy under their wing after the death of Nafitullah".
Heena, who lives in the premises of Best Bakery, where 14 persons were charred to death in 2002 in the wake of Godhra riots, said that she has not seen her son after his father Nafituallah was taken to Mumbai for medical treatment in the first week of February last year.
"When Nafituallah fell ill and was admitted to local Bhailal medical hospital for treatment, Sameer was taken to the hospital on the pretext that his father wanted to see him," Heena said.
"My in-laws, Zaheera and mother-in-law Sherunissa did not even inform me about the death of Nafituallah (on March 3, 2005). I learnt about it through news papers," she said.
"I will file a police case against them in a few days if they refuse to return my son," Heena added.
Heena sought help from Vadodara police to get custody of her son, Sameer. She also met officials of the Crime Branch in Vadodara and requested them to get her son back.
