Matilda The Musical – Grand Theatre, Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (Only until 2nd June)

Step into a summer of wonder, magic, and adventure with ‘Matilda The Musical’, a multi-award winning production from the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company – brought to India by the Cultural Centre for the very first time!

Inspired by the beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl, ‘Matilda’ is the story of an extraordinary little girl, who navigates life with a lively imagination and great gumption, despite rough beginnings. With parents who do not quite get her sharp mind and a vicious headmistress bent on making her miserable, she finds courage in her miraculous mind, a kind teacher, and her circle of loyal friends. With the astonishing adventure that is her story, Matilda proves that you can do big things, even though you’re little!

Written by the inimitable Dennis Kelly, with original music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the production has been developed and directed by Matthew Warchus. With 101 international awards including 24 Best Musical Awards to its name, ‘Matilda’ carries the glorious legacy of winning 11 million hearts across more than 90 cities since its sold-out opening in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

Since then, the spectacular production has enthralled audiences at the illustrious West End in London, and at Cambridge Theatre, where it has been running to a full house for over 12 years! From a grand Broadway opening at The Shubert Theatre to its triumphant North American, Australian, and International tours, this jet-setting musical even premiered in Tokyo with a fantastic Japanese production. ‘Matilda’ went on to smash theatre land records when it scooped a total of seven awards at the 2012 Laurence Olivier Awards, securing its place in The Guinness Book of World Records for most Laurence Olivier award wins.

While every minute detail of the musical conspires to spark a vivid world of imagination in children, its surreal narrative, stellar cast, foot-tapping music, vibrant costumes, and enchanting sets make it a punchy tonic of good cheer for audiences of all ages.

So, bring along your inner child who still dares to dream big – and get, set, go for a journey to remember!
